The Central Board of Film Certification [CBFC] on Thursday told the Bombay High Court that actor-politician Kangana Ranaut’s movie, Emergency will get a certificate only after the makers of the film make required cuts as suggested by the Revising Committee.A Division Bench of Justices comprising, B.P Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla asked the CBFC representative, advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, “Please give us some good news.” Mr. Chandrachud said, “CBFC’s revising committee has suggested certain cuts in the film. If the same are made, the film can be released.” Appearing for Zee Entertainment Enterprises, senior counsel Sharan Jagtiani appealed to the Bench to adjourn the hearing to decide whether the cuts can be made based on the suggestions of the CBFC’s revising committee or not. The Bench adjourned the matter for further hearing on September 30, 2024, Monday.   Kangana Ranaut, who has directed and co-produced the film and is the lead actor, is seeking the release of the censor certificate of the film. In the previous arguments in the High Court, the makers of the film have stated that despite being informed of the film’s certificate on August 29, 2024, the CBFC on purpose failed to release a physical copy of the certificate. Emergency was initially scheduled to hit the theatres on September 6, 2024.   In the last hearing on September 19, the makers of the film informed the Bench that Ms. Ranaut, who is a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Mandi since June 2024 is facing difficulties at the behest of the Bharatiya Janta Party [BJP] itself. The board wants the film to be released only after the elections in Haryana in October are over.   The Bench had come heavily on CBFC and expressed displeasure over the delay in the release certificate of the film.  Published – September 26, 2024 12:47 pm IST
