Kannada groups threaten protest over ‘Thug Life’ release in Karnataka –

BENGALURU: Kamal Haasan’s controversial statement about Kannada language has sparked widespread opposition. Kannada organisations have warned that the movie ‘Thug Life’ will not be released in Karnataka. Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) leader Praveen Shetty has warned that Bengaluru will be shut down if the movie is released in even a single theatre.
“If the movie is released, the fight will intensify across Karnataka. If the movie is released on June 5, we will enter the theatre and destroy it”, Praveen Shetty warned.
“We have made a unanimous decision to shut down Bengaluru if the movie is released. We cannot tolerate the statement that Kannada was born from Tamil. Kamal Haasan should apologise”, Shetty insisted.
Praveen Shetty emphasized that he is always a supporter of Kannada. If the movie is released, they will consult senior activists of Kannada organisations and plan a protest accordingly, he added.
