Just a few days before the premiere, Kangana Ranaut’s show ‘Lock Upp’ is in trouble. A case of copyright infringement has been filed against Ekta Kapoor’s ‘Lock Upp’ in a civil court in Hyderabad. Following which the civil court has issued an ad-interim injunction against the producers of the show. Alt Balaji, Balaji Telefilms, Karan Medi’s MX Player and Endemol Shine along with Ekta Kapoor are also involved in this case.
In its order, the court said, “The show is released by the defendants, their agents or any person acting on their behalf in theatres, OTT platforms, YouTube, any electronic media and social media by Lock Upp or by any other name should not be telecast.” Let us tell you that now the next hearing of the case will be held on March 9.
Who filed the suit and why?
Sanobar Baig, who filed the suit, claimed that he had registered an idea for a reality show with the Screen Writers’ Association in 2018 and was working on the idea with director Shantanu Ray. The show was to be named ‘The Jail’. He also said that Abhishek Rez, CEO of Endemol, is in touch with Sanobar. Abhishek Rez had promised to work on it after the pandemic is over. The Hyderabad-based businessman said that he had also given the idea of the show to Star Plus, but it did not materialise.
Changes in Promo
The makers of the show are yet to react to the stay order, but the latest promo of the show does not mention the premiere date of the show. Kangana Ranaut is all set to play the host for the show. Nisha Rawal, Babita Phogat, Poonam Pandey, Karanvir Bohra and Munawwar Farooqui have been confirmed as contestants for the show starting February 27.
