The 2025 Oscar nominations are here, and though Payal Kapdia’s All We Imagine as Light and Sandhya Suri’s Santosh, didn’t manage to bag a nomination for India, the Priyanka Chopra and Guneet Monga-produced live-action short, Anuja, secured us our only nod this year. This year’s race is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in recent memory, with no clear frontrunner for Best Picture. A stunning concoction of blockbusters, prestige dramas, and genre-defying contenders is set to compete for the industry’s highest honors. The postponement of the nominations announcement due to the Los Angeles wildfires, only heightened the suspense. With its new host Conan O’Brien, the Oscars ceremony on March 2 is looking to spotlight a year filled with comeback stories, breathtaking performances, and phenomenal directorial efforts.Emilia Perez leads the pack with a record-breaking 13 nominations, the most ever for a non-English language film. The Spanish-language musical made history with Karla Sofia Gascon becoming the first transgender woman nominated for an acting Oscar. Meanwhile, Brazil’s I’m Still Here bagged a surprising Best Picture nod, making it the only other non-English language film competing in the category this year.Other top contenders include The Brutalist, a period drama with 11 nominations including Best Picture and Best Director, and Wicked, the movie adaptation of the hit musical, which received 10 nominations including nods for its stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Conclave, a historical drama, and A Complete Unknown, a Bob Dylan biopic, each secured 9 nominations.
The Best Actress category sees Gascon competing against Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Mikey Madison (Anora), Demi Moore (The Substance), and Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here). Timothée Chalamet earned a Best Actor nomination for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, facing competition from Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), and Colman Domingo (Sing Sing). The coveted top prize remains wide open, with strong Best Picture cases to be made for The Brutalist, Emilia Pérez, Conclave, and Wicked, having garnered significant buzz at precursor awards. Here’s a full list of this year’s Oscar nominees:Best PictureThe BrutalistAnoraConclaveEmilia PerezWickedA Complete UnknownThe SubstanceDune: Part TwoNickel BoysI’m Still HereBest DirectorBrady Corbet, The BrutalistSean Baker, AnoraJames Mangold, A Complete UnknownCoralie Fargaet, The SubstanceJacques Audiard, Emilia PerezBest ActressDemi Moore, The SubstanceMikey Madison, AnoraKarla Sofia Gascon, Emilia PerezCynthia Erivo, WickedFernanda Torres, I’m Still HereBest ActorAdrien Brody, The BrutalistRalph Fiennes, ConclaveTimothee Chalamet, A Complete UnknownColman Domingo, Sing SingSebastian Stan, The ApprenticeBest Supporting ActressZoe Saldana, Emilia PerezAriana Grande, WickedFelicity Jones, The BrutalistMonica Barbaro, A Complete UnknownIsabella Rossellini, ConclaveBest Supporting ActorKieran Culkin, A Real PainGuy Pearce, The BrutalistYura Borisov, AnoraEdward Norton, A Complete UnknownJeremy Strong, The ApprenticeBest Original ScreenplayThe SubstanceThe BrutalistAnoraA Real PainSeptember 5Best Adapted ScreenplayConclaveEmilia PerezSing SingNickel BoysA Complete UnknownBest International Feature FilmEmilia PerezI’m Still HereThe Seed of the Sacred FigThe Girl with the NeedleFlowBest Animated Feature FilmFlowThe Wild RobotInside Out 2Memoir of a SnailWallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most FowlBest CinematographyThe BrutalistDune: Part TwoNosferatuMariaEmilia PerezBest Film EditingAnoraConclaveEmilia PerezThe BrutalistWickedBest Original ScoreThe BrutalistConclaveEmilia PerezWickedThe Wild RobotBest Original SongEmilia Perez (El Mal)Emilia Perez (Mi Camino)The Wild RobotSix Triple EightElton John: Never Too LateBest SoundDune: Part TwoWickedA Complete UnknownEmilia PerezThe Wild RobotBest Production DesignWickedThe BrutalistDune: Part TwoConclaveNosferatuBest Costume DesignWickedA Complete UnknownNosferatuConclaveGladiator IIBest Makeup and HairstylingThe SubstanceWickedNosferatuA Different ManEmilia PerezBest Visual EffectsDune: Part TwoKingdom of the Planet of the ApesWickedBetter ManAlien: RomulusBest Documentary FeatureNo Other LandSugarcanePorcelain WarSoundtrack to a Coup d’EtatBlack Box DiariesBest Documentary Short SubjectDeath By NumbersI Am Ready WardenIncidentInstruments of a Beating HeartThe Only Girl in the OrchestraBest Live Action Short FilmThe Man Who Could Not Remain SilentA LienThe Last RangerAnujaI’m Not a RobotBest Animated Short FilmBeautiful MenIn the Shadow of the CypressMagic CandiesWander to WonderYuck!
