Alia Bhatt starrer Darlings was one of the most loved films of this year. Along with Alia, the character of Hamza played by Vijay Varma in the film received a lot of appreciation.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, director Jasmeet K Reen revealed that it was Shah Rukh Khan’s idea to not end Hamza’s character in the second half of the film to make it humorous. Jasmeet revealed that “Shah Rukh Khan had a very interesting input.” She continued, “He said, ‘Hamza joh hain, second half mein usko chhodna mat (Don’t let Hamza go in the second half)’.”
She further said, “Obviously, we were not going to let him go but because the humour was just coming out of him being there, tied up or cracking a line. He said ‘chhodna mat (don’t let him go). Ismein humour aa sakta hain (This can be humorous) and please cast someone who can do this.’ I think that was an important input because obviously we added a lot more Hamza after that. On a macro level, that worked.”
Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt’s productional venture, Darlings, was released on an OTT platform and received great reviews from audience as well as critics. It stars Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew and is directed by Jasmeet K Reen.
