The Emerald City is calling once again as Universal Pictures unveils the official trailer for Wicked: For Good, the much-anticipated sequel to last year’s Oscar-winning blockbuster Broadway adaptation.Reuniting Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda, Wicked: For Good picks up where the original left off. According to the film’s synopsis, the sequel explores the events before and after Dorothy’s fabled arrival in Oz, as Elphaba fully embraces her role as the Wicked Witch of the West, while Glinda steps into her legacy as the Good Witch of the North.Also returning are Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, and Bowen Yang as Pfannee. The film is again directed by Jon M. Chu, with a screenplay by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox.The trailer teases more magic and a deeper look into the choices that shaped the legend. “You have to choose what kind of witch you want to be,” Erivo’s Elphaba declares in the clip.The original Wicked shattered records, earning $756 million globally and becoming the highest-grossing Broadway-to-film adaptation ever. It landed 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, with Erivo and Grande both recognized for their performances.
