World Oceans Day: David Attenborough to release documentary on saving the sea

Few have taught us more about the planet than Sir David Attenborough. With World Oceans Day on June 8 around the corner, the pre-eminent biologist and natural historian is bringing another documentary, Ocean with David Attenborough. Like every time, this time too, he leaves us with an important lesson — “If we save the sea, we save our world.”

In the feature, which will première in India on JioHotstar, Attenborough draws on his lifetime of exploration to take viewers on a journey through spectacular undersea habitats. He investigates diverse marine ecosystems, shows us how they are vital to avoiding climate catastrophe, and puts the spotlight on destructive forms of fishing like bottom trawling that are a threat to the oceans. The biologist and broadcaster, 99, elaborates, “My lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. Over the last 100 years, scientists and explorers have revealed remarkable new species, epic migrations, and complex ecosystems. In this film, we share those wonderful discoveries, uncover why our ocean is in such poor health, and most importantly, show how it can bounce back to life.”
